Artist Statement of Badraldin Rehaad Ray Baksh BSc, MD, MBA, BFA

I have spent decades creating art and imagery. I started as a young boy creating my own drawing, painting and sculpture in high school where I won best art student from grade 9-grade12. I first art award was in Junior Kindergarten. In high school I did copies of famous artists especially Lauren Harris and Tom Thomson. I Continued onto Art School where I studied fine art and experimental art and Design in OCAD U. There I excelled with an average of 95%. 

After Art School I set up shop as a fine artist painting in various styles including landscapes, sculptural 3D art, and other styles including nudes and abstract conceptual art. My lifelong search for new artist’s materials had me painting using recycled paper from BC, Canada, litres of contact cement and litres of wood glue. I also liked the fact that acrylics lasted 1000 years and oils only lasted 300 years until it turned brown and started to go black. Most of my life was spent painting in new materials including garbage art meaning things that had a meaning to me and were everyday objects and oils. I like using unique paints like metallic paints. I would like to paint in neon paints. 

My future ambition is to paint using acrylics and impasto gel and to use video art where my old cellphones and garage art are painted on the same canvas or MDF panels. I also write art novels. I also would like to do some welded art.

Most of my art is big and the average piece is three feet by four feet. I have some smaller pieces and other larger pieces. I prefer to paint to music as I write to music. I would like to do my own rap CD of the poems I wrote.

I am in the midst of printing up my ‘IT’ chart and my ‘word’ chart. It will be eight feet by eight feet.

I have produced 300 works of fine art thus far.

Enterpreneur and Chairman of the Board 2006-2018

I owned and operated four businesses that were sold. I currently have an incorporated business called Inventive Designs that sells fine art and publishes books written be me. I recently published a novel in September, 2018 called A Concert of Lost Souls that will be listed on Barnes and Nobel online and www.amazon.com and Amazon Kindle. I hold five Engineering Patents that is part of the firm.

Novelist 2006-always.

Wrote 14 Novels, 10 Novellas and a book of poems and songs. Published by Xlibris.

Patient Transfer Attendant. 2006

I worked for Voyageur Transportation as a Paramedic. I transferred patients from hospital to hospital of institutions.

Sales Associate 2002-2005

I worked for Direct Energy going door to door of targeted areas to help lower energy costs for homeowners by fixing their commodity price.

Artist 2002-Present and forever.

I work in various styles and media including figurative and abstract. I paint in watercolours, acrylics and oils and mixed media. I attended the Ontario College of Art and Design.

Canada Post 2000-2001. Summer Job.

I was a Final Sort for all of the carriers. I increased efficiency and streamlined the counting method. Night shift.

Graphic Designer. Laserlink 1999

I designed their website and catalogs. I was responsible for all of their marketing methods.

Photographer. Designs for Aristocracy 1999

I documented interior spaces and designed the redesigned the interior of mansions and houses.

Personal Support Worker. 1995-1998  

I worked for Extendicare as a nurses’ aide. I fed and helped the patients with personal hygiene. 

Clinical Clerk - St.Michael’s Hospital 1993-1994.

I worked at St. Michael’s Hospital as a doctor in training. I was on all of the services and specialties. I’m certified in First Aid and CRP.

Camp Counselor - BathurstChildren’s Camp. Summer 1992 

I was the Art Director and general Counselor for the children.

Medical Researcher - Heart and Stroke Foundation: Medical Research Council of Canada.1990.

I was part of a team of doctors performing cardiovascular research. 

Lab Assistant- The Human Genetics Lab, 1990 

I attended to the sequencing of genes, chromatography, analyzing data and general lab duties. I was able to guide the direction of the research protocol with the help of research and literature searches. The research was successful and pointed the way towards immunology and the HLA System
